Anyone may become a member of Heeling Partners. We provide our services to facilities located in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, Colorado. You may live anywhere and visit Heeling Partners facilities in these locations, but if this is not convenient, we provide help to individuals or groups starting their own program(s) in other locations.
In order to become a registered team, you and your dog must pass Delta Society requirements in order to assess the skills of you and your dog as a team. You must be at least 18 years of age and your dog must be over 1 year old and have been in your home for a minimum of 6 months.
Step 1: Application
Complete the Heeling Partner application and mail to: Heeling Partners, PO Box 2628, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602. Click on "Member Application" at the leftfor a copy of the application or call Jacquie Tannenbaum (300-4835).
Step 2: Self-Study
Obtain the Delta Society “Team Training Course Manual” from Heeling Partners or via the Delta Society website (www.deltasociety.org). Read the self-study manual. Take the Volunteer Review (self-administered test) located in the manual.
Attend and assist in at least one evaluation.
Step 3: Team Evaluation
Take the Delta evaluation with your dog. Contact Debbie Rutzebeck at 303-887-6347 or rutzdk@aol.com for details. There are several items to bring to the evaluation; you will receive a list.
You should present yourself and your dog at the evaluation site as if you were actually making a visit. That means you should both be clean and well groomed and, in the case of the handler, appropriately dressed.
If you are not planning on becoming a Heeling Partners team but want to take the evaluation, there is a $25.00 charge to cover the Examiner’s time.
Step 4: Delta Registration
After passing the evaluation, complete the Pet Partners registration materials and mail them to the Delta Society. The Delta Society will mail you a “Pet Partner Acceptance Letter” and photo ID.
